Creek Steward
The Sacramento Urban Creeks Council awarded the
first Creek Steward Award in 1996 to Dillard Elementary School
for their stewardship and study of wetlands adjacent to their Wilton
school. We have presented the award annually ever since. Any
school or youth group in the Sacramento area using creeks as part
of their curiculum are eligible for the award. We have given out
awards to elementary classrooms as well as high schools.

Junk & Gunk
The Junk and Gunk contest may be the shortest annual art
exhibit in Sacramento. Creek cleaners select inspiring pieces of trash and
bring them to the Celebration, working in teams to create art for all to
enjoy until 2:00p.m., when the sculptures are dismantled and tossed into
the dumpster. The artists enthusiastically compete for Junk and Gunk Prizes.
